By the 1980’s Immigrant Women’s Health Centre staff had begun thinking about how to expand services and provide sexual health education and clinical services across the city of Toronto. A 3-year pilot project was undertaken between IWHC and Toronto Public Health to retrofit a vehicle to provide immigrant women in factories with pap tests, breast exams, STI testing, birth control counselling and blood pressure checks. The Mobile Health Clinic Program was born! IWHC staff also provided sexual health and family planning education and counselling through lunchtime workshops on the factory floors.
